Minutes of the meeting of June 15, 2009
A regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Alexandria Township was held on the 15th day of June 2009 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.
ROLL CALL: Supervisors present were Bryon Alstead, Joel Dahlheimer, Louis Ross, Jim Casper and Roger Thalman. Also present were Gregg Raisanen, Clerk, and Mona Billmark, Treasurer. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Chairman Thalman at 6:00 p.m.
Alstead, seconded by Casper, made a motion to adopt the agenda with the addition of discussion about manhole cover maintenance under new business. Motion carried unanimously.
Alstead, seconded by Dahlheimer, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 5/18/09 regular board meeting with the following corrections: Change Brackin Road to Homestead Road in reference to the flood damage repairs and to include the following sentence under planning and Zoning: The board noted that if Golden Gate Ave. extends in the future through the proposed Quitmeyer plat, the existing house will not meet setback requirements; therefore, it will require a variance or will have to be relocated. Motion carried unanimously.
Alstead, seconded by Casper, made a motion to authorize payment of claims 9169 – 9182 in the amount of $10,394.87 and to authorize a transfer from savings into checking of $10,000.00. Motion carried unanimously.
PLANNING AND ZONING: No items of business.
ENGINEER’S REPORT: Clerk Raisanen reported that Zacker Excavating withdrew its previous quote for repairing the flood damaged roads because they had quoted steel culverts and not concrete as requested. They submitted a new quote in the amount of $20,256.95, which is higher than the quote submitted by Mark Lee. Dahlheimer, seconded by Alstead, made a motion to contract with Mark Lee in the amount of $19,532.24 to replace the four flood damaged culverts across E. Lake Victoria and Homestead Roads. Motion carried unanimously. Clerk Raisanen reported that he had signed the final documents with FEMA and Alexandria Township will be reimbursed for approximately ½ of the cost of replacement.
Clerk Raisanen presented a blacktop petition for Remington Road. Alstead, seconded by Ross, made a motion to accept the blacktop petition for Remington Road. Discussion was that this area is not currently be served by ALASD and may be a requirement prior to blacktopping. Motion carried unanimously. Clerk Raisanen marked the petition 09-01.
Supervisor Dahlheimer reported that he had viewed a portion of a private driveway off of Shadow Lane that was replaced last year after the road was repaired. He indicated that there were cracks in the repaired portion. The board requested that the homeowner come to a future board meeting to discuss the situation.
NEW BUSINESS: Supervisor Alstead reported that during recent road inspections, the supervisors noticed that the blacktop surrounding some of the manhole covers was damaged. Chairman Thalman will discuss this with ALASD to request that they make the repairs.
Being no further business, Ross, seconded by Alstead, made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
