October 27, 2014 Meeting Minutes

A regular meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 27th day of October, 2014 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.

 

Roll Call: Commission members present were Shad Steinbrecher, Larry Steidl and Linda Dokken-McFann. Also present were Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk, and Ben Oleson, Township Zoning Administrator. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Chairman Steidl at 6:00 p.m.

 

Agenda: Steinbrecher, seconded by Dokken-McFann, made a motion to approve the agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Minutes: Dokken-McFann, seconded by Steinbrecher, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 9/22/2014 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Zoning Administrator’s Report: Zoning Administrator Oleson will seek a response from the town board on whether a conditional use permit should be required for moving a used building.

 

Public Hearing: none

 

New Business: none

 

Commissioner Hacker joined the meeting.

 

Old Business: Zoning Administrator Oleson asked for comments and/or suggested changes to Section V. Goals & Policies of the comprehensive plan.

 

Under “Infrastructure & Public Services”, changes were recommended to the 5th and 6th bullets (paragraphs) as follows:

 

  • Alexandria Township requests notice of relevant meetings in order to have the opportunity to provide input into discussions regarding the relocation of major community facilities to a site within or in close proximity to Alexandria Township to ensure that these or similar facilities are consistent with the goals and policies of the Land Use Plan.

 

  • Alexandria Township requests notice of relevant meetings in order to have the opportunity to provide input into discussions regarding major transportation-related investments by other levels of government that would be within or in close proximity to Alexandria Township – such as a new I-94 highway interchange, the relocation of the Alexandria Airport, or a commuter/passenger rail line through the Township – to ensure that these or similar facilities and/or investments are consistent with the goals and policies of the Land Use Plan.

 

Under “Governance”, changes were recommended to this section as follows:

 

  • Alexandria Township will continue to work with the City of Alexandria for any proposed future annexation process. Its representatives will ensure both the interests and concerns of the affected landowners are heard.
  • Alexandria Township will continue to administer zoning and subdivision regulations as authorized by State Statute in order to protect the general health, safety and welfare of its landowners and residents.

 

The third bullet (paragraph) was deleted.

 

  • The Township will seek to facilitate orderly and beneficial economic development, prevent harm to persons and property, and preserve the quality and beauty of the environment.

 

  • Alexandria Township will exercise prudence in its budgetary and taxation practices and policies.

 

The commission will review Section VI. Future Land Use Map for the next meeting.

 

Adjournment: Being no further business Steinbrecher, seconded by Hacker, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
