A regular meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 25th day of July, 2011 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.
Roll Call: Commission members present were John Knowles, Julie Haar, Russ Niskanen, Larry Steidl and Lyle Hammerschmidt. Also present were Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk, and Ben Oleson, Township Zoning Administrator. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Chairman Knowles at 6:00 p.m.
Agenda: Steidl, seconded by Niskanen, made a motion to approve the agenda with the addition of zoning ordinance change under New Business. Motion carried unanimously.
Minutes: Hammerschmidt, seconded by Steidl, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 06/27/2011 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.
New Business: Fall Site Visit Schedule. The commission chose to leave the site visit schedule as the third Tuesday of each month at 12:30 p.m.
Zoning Administrator Oleson stated that there are mandated changes regarding variances that will need to be incorporated into our zoning ordinance. The commission plans to discuss the changes at their August meeting and hold a public hearing in September.
Old Business: The commission continued the training video “Rural and Shoreland Subdivisions”. This week’s topics included the loss of rural character; high infrastructure costs; impacts on farming, mining and hunting; and the preservation of rural and shoreland areas. They will view the conclusion of the video at their August meeting.
Zoning Administrator’s Report: Zoning Administrator Oleson provided an update.
Adjournment: Being no further business Hammerschmidt, seconded by Haar, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 7:34 p.m.
