A regular meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 27th day of July, 2009 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.
Roll Call: Commission members present were John Knowles, Julie Feuling, Russ Niskanen, Larry Steidl and Lyle Hammerschmidt. Also present was Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk, and Chuck Marohn, actingTownship Zoning Administrator. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Chairman Knowles at 6:00 p.m.
Agenda: Steidl, seconded by Niskanen, made a motion to approve the agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously.
Minutes: Niskanen, seconded by Hammerschmidt, made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 27, 2009 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.
Old Business: Zoning Administrator Marohn provided an update on Jack’s Family Recycling Center. He stated that a stipulation under the screening plan was for the owner to remove the old billboards on the west side. The owner, Ms. Hodges, has asked to install a fence to the west of the billboards that would encompass the service road. She is also proposing to install an eight foot fence rather than a ten foot fence. The eight foot fence would be raised two feet off the ground thus meeting the ten foot requirement. The consensus of the commission was to not allow the re-working of the original screening plan. Zoning Administrator Marohn will relay the planning commission’s response to the owner.
New Business: Zoning Administrator Marohn conducted a training session entitled, “Developing Effective Motions and Findings of Fact”.
The commission discussed the possibility of allowing a restaurant in the RS (residential shoreland) district.
Zoning Administrator’s Report: No comment.
Adjournment: Being no further business Steidl, seconded by Niskanen, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted…
