November 27, 2006 Meeting Minutes

A regular meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 27th day of November, 2006 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.

 

ROLL CALL: Commission members present were John Knowles, Julie Feuling, Russ Niskanen, Larry Steidl and Lyle Hammerschmidt. Also present was Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Chairman Knowles at 7:00 p.m.

 

Feuling, seconded by Steidl, made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Hammerschmidt, seconded by Niskanen, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 08/14/06 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Zoning Administrator Ben Oleson was present to review the timeline regarding the adoption of the township zoning and subdivision ordinances. The plan is to adopt interim ordinances in the next month and hopefully these will become permanent in the next six months.

 

Discussion ensued regarding location restrictions for adult use businesses. Motion made by Niskanen, seconded by Hammerschmidt, to limit any adult use business to an industrial zoned area and to require the establishment to obtain a license from the township according to Township Ordinance No. 94-19. Roll call: Hammerschmidt – yes, Niskanen – yes, Feuling – yes, Knowles – yes, Steidl – yes. Motion carried unanimously.

 

The commission reviewed the county’s ordinance regarding home occupations. It was the consensus of the commission to utilize the county’s ordinance.

 

Oleson also briefed the commission on county ordinance changes and their effect on township zoning.

 

Being no further business, Feuling, seconded by Hammerschmidt, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
