January 27, 2014 Meeting Minutes

A regular meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 27th day of January, 2014 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.

 

Roll Call: Commission members present were Larry Steidl, Linda Dokken-McFann and Bill Dropik, Jr. Also present were Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk, and Ben Oleson, Township Zoning Administrator. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Chairman Steidl at 6:00 p.m.

 

Agenda: Dokken-McFann, seconded by Dropik, made a motion to approve the agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Minutes: Dropik, seconded by Dokken-McFann, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 11/25/2013 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Public Hearing: none

 

Zoning Administrator’s Report: In response to inquiries at the last meeting:

 

  • Zoning Administrator Oleson reported he had contacted county staff regarding a tree preservation ordinance. He said the county does not have an ordinance, only regulations for cutting trees down by the shoreline.

 

  • Oleson also checked into feedlot compliance for an area by the Victoria/Jessie channel. The feedlot officer affirmed that area appears to be in compliance.

 

New Business: Oleson reported the township had been contacted by Northern Natural Gas Company about the existence of their facilities within township boundaries. The company provided a packet of information containing the following: a map depicting their pipeline; material safety data sheets on natural gas; a pamphlet of general pipeline/excavator/public safety official information along with emergency contacts.

 

Old Business:  Dokken-McFann, seconded by Dropik, made a motion to table the comprehensive plan training and discussion until the next meeting.

 

Discussion ensued on whether the township’s stance on pervious pavers should be altered to more closely align with the county. Oleson to meet with county staff for further clarification of their regulations on pervious pavers.

 

Consensus that the home occupations portion of the zoning ordinance is ready for public hearing.

 

Adjournment: Being no further business Dokken-McFann, seconded by Dropik, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
