January 9, 2006 Meeting Minutes

A special public meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 9th day of January, 2006.

ROLL CALL: Commission members present were John Knowles, Julie Feuling, Russ Niskanen, Larry Steidl and Bryon Alstead. Also present was Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Chairman Knowles at 7:00 p.m.

Alstead, seconded by Feuling, made a motion to approve the agenda with the addition of a presentation by township resident, Shawn Green. Motion carried unanimously.

Niskanen, seconded by Steidl, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 12/12/05 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.

Chairman Knowles acknowledged Shawn Green. Mr. Green prefaced his introduction to the commission members by stating that he had filed for the supervisor position currently held by T. Michael Thompson. He proceeded to give a brief description of his background, concluding with the statement that he wants to become involved in local government.

The commission members reviewed a draft of land use districts presented by zoning administrator, Ben Oleson. Discussion ensued as to which areas in the township should be targeted for the delineations of urban residential, transition residential, and rural conservation residential. The possibility of a fourth residential district; i.e. agricultural, was summarily discussed and rejected, at this point in time, in favor of the original three districts.

Zoning administrator Oleson distributed a handout depicting an analysis of buildable areas within the township. Oleson also presented color maps which identified ALASD boundaries as well as collector roads (roads which currently are, or may someday be, heavily used roads).

Being no further business, Alstead, seconded by Niskanen, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted….

Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk
