July 23, 2012 Meeting Minutes

A regular meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 23rd day of July, 2012 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.

 

Roll Call: Commission members present were Julie Haar, Roger Thalman, Larry Steidl and Lyle Hammerschmidt. Also present were Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk, and Ben Oleson, Township Zoning Administrator. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Hammerschmidt at 6:00 p.m.

 

Agenda: Thalman, seconded by Steidl, made a motion to approve the agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Minutes: Haar, seconded by Thalman, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 5/23/2012 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Zoning Administrator’s Report: Zoning Administrator Oleson informed the commission that the town had received an anonymous complaint regarding alleged pollution issues at Jack’s Family Recycling Center. Oleson forwarded the complaint to the MPCA. Oleson also stated that JFRC had filed for bankruptcy, and that the facility would become a drop off station only.

 

Oleson stated that he followed up on a property on West Lake Jessie regarding the removal of brush/trees on the shoreline. He determined that the removal met the ordinance requirements.

 

Public Hearing: none

 

New Business:  Sign Ordinance. Oleson asked the commission to identify areas needing updates. He will be meeting with the county to ascertain their areas of concern and will subsequently present a draft of a new sign ordinance to both entities.

 

The August meeting will be comprised of a training session on comprehensive plans and potential updates on the new sign ordinance.

Adjournment: Being no further business Steidl, seconded by Thalman, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
