May 30, 2012 Meeting Minutes

A regular meeting of the Planning Commission of Alexandria Township was held on the 30th day of May, 2012 at the Alexandria Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.

 

Roll Call: Commission members present were Julie Haar, Roger Thalman, Larry Steidl and Lyle Hammerschmidt. Also present were Bonnie Fulghum, Deputy Clerk, and Ben Oleson, Township Zoning Administrator. As said members formed a quorum and the meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Hammerschmidt at 6:00 p.m.

 

Agenda: Steidl, seconded by Thalman, made a motion to approve the agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Minutes: Haar, seconded by Thalman, made a motion to approve the minutes of the 04/23/2012 meeting as written. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Zoning Administrator’s Report: Jack’s Family Recycling Center. A barrier was to have been erected to the back of the property by early April. To date this has not been done. Zoning Administrator Oleson will meet with the owner.

 

Oleson reported that the lattice fencing fronting Dun Rite Auto Body has fallen again. He will contact the owner.

 

Oleson stated that the township had received a complaint regarding the condition of property on Maple Drive (County Road 23). He was instructed by the town board to investigate.

 

Oleson asked the commission how they wanted to proceed with the daycare sign issue on Hazel Hill Road. The commission will wait until the sign ordinance has been updated later this summer.

 

Vice-Chairman Hammerschmidt mentioned that a property on West Lake Jessie Drive appears to have had vegetation stripped from the shoreline. Oleson will investigate.

 

Public Hearing: none

 

Old Business: The commission discussed the regulation of vacation rentals. Future possible avenues to pursue would be an article in the newsletter and/or a form of registration. No further action will be taken while awaiting the outcome of legislation in process.

 

The commission instructed Oleson to draft language regarding the types and installation of pervious pavers. The commission will include this new language as part of its end-of-the-year recommendations to the town board.

 

Oleson stated that the town board has not made a decision on the extent of review concerning the comprehensive plan.

 

New Business:  The commission will postpone training on comprehensive plans until after the town board has made a decision on the extent of review.

 

Adjournment: Being no further business Thalman, seconded by Steidl, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 7:06 p.m.
